Sport and Mental Health: EASMH and “Crazy for Football” selections

Double appointment for the European Culture and Sport Organization with EASMH Transnational Project Meeting and the official selections of the “Crazy for Football” Italian national team.

The World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on October 10th. In 2021, ECOS has moved ahead and spent the the last two days organizing two important events, linked together, promoting sport and mental health.

EASMH Transnational Project Meeting

On Friday 8th October, partners of the European project “European Alliance for Sport and Mental Health” met at the European Space of the European Commission Representation in Italy. EASMH Project has the ambitious goal of creating an international network of sports technicians and mental health operators for the definition of therapeutic sports programs for people suffering from mental illness. A technical meeting attended by prof. Andrea Fiorillo and Dr. Gaia Sampogna and Carmen Ciampi of the University of Campania “Vanvitelli”, Department of Psychiatry, Melenco Ionel and Antoanela Olteanu of the “Ovidius” University of Costanza, Faculty of Sport, as academic partners. Alberto Bichi, Co-Executive Driector at EPSI, one of the largest European networks for sport and innovation, together with the project manager Chloé Barat, was present as well. Sampsa Kivistö, representing the Tampere Sports Federation in Finland; Jonathan Garside, representing Everton in the Community, completed the network of partners.

For ECOS, in addition to the project coordinator Valerio Di Tommaso and the project manager Stefano Moliterni, the scientific committee was represented by dr. Santo Rullo and Dr. Stefania Cerino, Francesca Cirulli, Marta Borgi and Barbara Collacchi.

During the meeting, experts analysed the more than 200 questionnaires submitted to the mental health services of 5 European countries and the basis for the training modules that will be delivered next year.

Nazionale “Crazy for Football” selections

On Saturday 9 October, all partners attend the official selections of the Italian Crazy for Football National Team, where about 20 boys with mental illness, coming from various mental health services in the Lazio Region, participated with with the dream of wearing the “Azzurri” shirt.

Scientific and sport: twoe events with the same purpose: promoting sports practice in psychiatric rehabilitation courses, a commitment that ECOS carries out with conviction and perseverance.
