In the last few weeks ECOS has been involved in organising a major sport and social event, the Dream World Cup 2018. The World Futsal Championship for psychiatric patients, in its second edition, hosted nine National Teams from all over the world and about 150 athletes. Italy won the Cup without losing a single match and with a generous 17-4 in the final against Chile.

To organise such an event, while celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Basaglia Law in Italy, was a challange towards social improvement, giving the chance to people with mental health problems to emerge from isolation and experience the thrill of a global competition. The event was held in Rome, in the Palatiziano Stadium, a magical venue designed by italian engineer Pier Luigi Nervi which gave the competition an even greater appeal.

Italian and global media covered the event in a variety of ways. Italian broadcaster Rai live-streamed the more significant matches on its sport channel RaiSport, with commentary from soccer legends such as Marco Tardelli and Sinisa Mihajlovic. Global coverage included articles from The Times, Spain’s El Pais and Mexico’s Milenio, while on national scale the event could count on La Repubblica, ANSA, Il Messaggero and many others.
